What you need to know:


What is considered to be household contents? It’s all your personal items and furniture you take with when you move to a new address.

  • Insured Perils: Damages as a result of storm, wind, water, hail, fire, explosion, lightning, power surge, earthquake, and theft (with visible signs of entry or exit) etc. are covered. DAMAGES TO ITEMS BECAUSE OF EVERYDAY USE, Wear AND TEAR IS NOT COVERED.
  • Cell phone: must be specified! Cell phones are not covered under the household contents section.
  • LAPA/Thatch: Maintenance should be done at least every 3 to 5 years on thatch & on SABS lightning conductors. Keep records of maintained/service done.
  • LAPA CONTENTS (Electronic equipment): Take note that there will be no cover for any electronic equipment inside an open lapa.
  • Moving house: When you move to a new house please use the services of a professional furniture removal company. Accidental damages incurred during the move will not be covered. If the removal truck is in volved in an accident, caught on fire or hijacked/stolen there will be cover for the contents.
  • GAS STOVE: A certificate of compliance must be submitted with the installation of the gas stove and also proof of any maintenance done.
  • GOODS IN THE OPEN: are no longer covered under your policy, only if enclosed and there is visible proof of break in.
  • WHAT IF YOUR HOUSE BURNS DOWN TONIGHT? Will the sum insured of the household contents be enough to replace everything in your house?
  • Inventory:  Make sure that the sum insured for the house contents is sufficient to prevent problems with claims and average being applied. The inventory will assist you to determine the correct replacement value. (Ask the office to send you the form)
  • Proof of ownership: Keep your slips and invoice of everything you buy. If you have a claim the insurance company will need proof that you are the owner of the items you are claiming for. Photos of the items are not seen as sufficient proof anymore.
