Type of Cover:

  • Comprehensive – All own accidental damage, third/other party damage, theft / hijacking, and hail damage is covered. Anything that could happen to the vehicle is covered EXCEPT mechanical breakage and wear & tear; The windscreen is also included.
  • Third party, fire & theft – No own damages is included, only the third/other party’s damage, fire and theft/hijacking is covered. The windshield is not included.
  • Third party only – This cover is only for the third other party’s damage. Nothing else is included in this cover.

Optional cover:

  • Car hire – When the car is in an accident or stolen, you can get a rental car. There is a deposit payable to the provider and the car rental is available for a period as selected on the policy, 30/60 days.
  • Credit Shortfall – For the bank. This covers the difference between the amount insured on the schedule and the outstanding balance at the bank. Once the outstanding balance at the bank is less than the insured amount, we can remove the cover on the schedule, because it is no longer needed.
  • Basic Excess Waiver – There are basic excesses applicable to all policies, this cover gives you the opportunity to change the basic excess to R0.00. NB: each insurance company has its own conditions for this cover.

What you need to know:

  • USE: Private: Traveling for social, to work and back; Business: This is when you use your vehicle for work more than 4 times a month. E.g., A rep travels each and every day to get new clients and service the exciting ones.
  • Sum Insured: Vehicles are insured for retail value (unless stated otherwise). Please see your policy schedule.
  • Credit shortfall / Top Up: Most insurers don’t cover balloon/residual payments anymore. If you have taken the cover please check at least once a year that the sum insured for he credit shortfall is still enough to settle the vehicle at the bank should there be a write off or theft.
  • Locks & Keys: Make sure this amount is enough to replace the keys of your car, if not the amount can be increased at a premium;
  • Extras: Extras needs to be noted under the vehicles to have cover, proof of the extras are also required (keep slips of installation or purchase). If you want to add any, please provide the details. 
  • Owner & Driver: If the registered owner and regular driver is not the insured or spouse, you need to inform us to avoid any complications with a claim.
  • License: Ensure that the regular driver & icence details are correctly noted.
  • Accident: When you are involved in an accident and need towing. Phone your emergency assist line before letting anyone tow your vehicle. If the tow-in company does not have authorisation you will have to pay the account out of your own pocket.
  • Cross border letter: When you plan to cross the border please let us know. The insurance company need to issue you a cross border letter. If you cross the border and have an accident without informing the insurance company your claim may be refused.
